AuxClip Pro User Guide & Mastering Manual

Precision mastering clipper engineered with continuous hard-to-soft knee saturation, 32x polyphase anti-aliasing, and true-peak inter-sample overs protection.

1. Overview & Signal Architecture

In modern production, pushing a master limiter too hard generates audible pumping and squashed transients. AuxClip Pro solves this by shaving micro-transient spikes before your limiter ever sees them. By cleanly lopping off or softly rounding the top 1–2 dB of snare and kick peaks, your master limiter works effortlessly, yielding 2–3 dB more clean loudness without distortion.

Why Clipping Outperforms Fast Limiters
Fast peak limiters rely on rapid gain-reduction envelopes that cause low-frequency waveform modulation and smearing. A brickwall clipper has an attack time of literally 0.0 ms: it simply truncates voltages above the ceiling, converting transient spikes into euphonic upper-harmonic crack.

2. Complete Knob & Parameter Reference

Knob Name Parameter ID Range & Unit Default Acoustic Function & Listening Tip
Input Gain input_gain -24.0 dB – +24.0 dB 0.0 dB Drive Stage. Pushes audio harder into the clipping threshold. Increasing Input Gain introduces transient shaving on dynamic signals and adds rich harmonic density.
Ceiling ceiling -24.0 dB – 0.0 dB 0.0 dB Peak Limit Threshold. Sets the absolute peak ceiling where waveform voltage is clipped. For master bus export, set to -0.3 dB or -1.0 dB to guarantee streaming safety.
Knee knee 0.0% – 100.0% 0.0% Curve Interpolation. 0% is pure Hard Brickwall Clip (maximum snap and crack); 100% is smooth hyperbolic tangent saturation (warm analog tape/tube compression).
Output Gain output_gain -24.0 dB – +12.0 dB 0.0 dB Post-Clip Makeup. Clean linear output gain stage. Compensate output level when shaving deep peaks into downstream processors.
Mix mix 0.0% – 100.0% 100.0% Parallel Blending. Mix dry dynamic audio with clipped audio. At 35%–50%, provides aggressive parallel drum crushing without sacrificing natural dynamics.

3. Engines & Advanced Toggles

Link Gain / Ceiling Auto-Gain Match

Automatically reduces the output stage downward by the exact dB amount you drive the Input Gain upward. This eliminates the psychoacoustic "louder sounds better" illusion, letting you judge the true harmonic coloration without volume bias.

Polyphase Oversampling 1x to 32x Linear Phase

Upsamples the digital signal prior to non-linear clipping, using multi-stage half-band polyphase FIR reconstruction filters. Completely prevents harsh, brittle inharmonic foldback aliasing from contaminating your high frequencies.

True Peak (ISP) Limiter Streaming Protection

Traditional sample-peak meters miss inter-sample reconstruction peaks generated when digital audio converts back to analog. The True Peak ISP toggle prevents inter-sample overs, ensuring Spotify and Apple Music compliance.

Hear Delta Audio Audition

Inverts the clipped signal against the dry input to solo exclusively the material being shaved off. When clipping a drum bus or master, you should only hear crisp, sharp clicks on transient peaks.

4. Battle-Tested Mix Recommendations

Recipe 1: The Pre-Master Headroom Maximizer
Master Bus Pre-Limiter

Insert AuxClip Pro directly before your final brickwall limiter on your stereo Master Bus. Shave 1.0 to 1.5 dB of micro-transients.

Knee: 15% (Crisp with subtle round)
Ceiling: -0.5 dBFS
Oversampling: 8x or 16x
True Peak ISP: ON
Input Gain: +1.5 dB to +2.5 dB
Link: OFF

Acoustic Result: Shaves off rogue snare and kick spikes transparently. Your master limiter stops pumping, easily yielding 2 to 3 dB more competitive commercial loudness.

Recipe 2: Snare Drum Crack & Transient Shaping
Individual Snare Insert

Snare drums naturally possess massive dynamic crest factors that blow past your mix bus headroom. Clip the top 3–5 dB of the snare transient.

Knee: 0.0% (Hard Clip)
Ceiling: 0.0 dB
Oversampling: 4x
Link: ON
Input Gain: +4.0 dB to +6.0 dB
Mix: 100%

Acoustic Result: Squares off wild peaks into dense acoustic crack. Every backbeat strikes with identical, explosive loudness and punch.

Recipe 3: 808 Sub-Bass Tube Harmonic Saturation
808 / Bass Track Insert

Sub-bass fundamentals below 60 Hz are inaudible on mobile phone and laptop speakers. Soft-clipping introduces audible 2nd and 3rd harmonics.

Knee: 85% – 100% (Soft Tape Knee)
Oversampling: 4x
Link: ON
Input Gain: +6.0 dB to +8.0 dB
Mix: 65% – 80% (Parallel)
True Peak ISP: OFF

Acoustic Result: Imparts warm, thick presence in the 120–400 Hz range so your bass translates loud and clear on phone speakers while preserving sub depth.
